Meet Dr. John Aamodt

As an orthodontist, I’m interested in all aspects of the specialty and committed to providing quality care.

While I really enjoy the technical side of orthodontics, one of my favorite aspects of my profession is meeting so many different people. I have the opportunity to get to know each person during their treatment and see how they change as their teeth straighten. It is an honor to improve people’s quality of life and self-confidence by helping them achieve beautiful smiles!

Education

ABO SealI have practiced for over 20 years, now, and am grateful for all the wonderful people I have had the pleasure to spend time with. I have learned so much from them: they have enriched my life and made me a better practitioner and a better person.

  • Undergraduate studies, University of Saint Thomas
  • Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS), University of Minnesota School of Dentistry
  • Orthodontic Residency, University of Minnesota School of Dentistry Division of Orthodontics

The Practice

I am proud of Erickson-Aamodt Orthodontics. We have a skilled and caring team that is committed to giving our patients the best possible treatment in a comfortable environment. We genuinely try to get to know our patients and their families, and treat everyone with respect.

Using current technology and quality materials, we strive to choose appropriate and predictable treatments, with our patients, to meet their expectations. By keeping everyone informed and comfortable, and working with each patient as an individual, we ensure a positive experience and the best possible results.

Continuing Education, Professional Affiliations, and Activities

Since completing my post-doctoral orthodontic residency in 2001, I have actively sought out opportunities to further my knowledge, skills, and understanding of orthodontics. I have been involved with various study clubs and attended many professional continuing education meetings, seminars, and lectures over the years.

Additionally, I have served in local dental and orthodontic organizations and am a member of the Children’s Hospital of Saint Paul’s Cleft Palate team. This team provides me the opportunity to look at complex cases with multiple medical and dental specialists, to help find solutions for patients with challenging dental and skeletal issues.

I am a Board-Certified Orthodontist and an active member of the:

  • American Association of Orthodontists
  • Midwestern Society of Orthodontists
  • Minnesota Association of Orthodontists, past president
  • American Board of Orthodontics, diplomate
  • American Dental Association
  • Minnesota Dental Association
  • Saint Paul District Dental Society, past president

Beyond the Practice

I live in my hometown of Saint Paul with my wife, who is also a St. Paul native. We have two children: a daughter who just went off to college and a son in high school. We also have a cat, named Jack, who has been part of the family since the kids were young. He is friendly, laid-back, and extremely tolerant; over the years he has endured the kids dressing him up for almost every occasion.

In my free time, I’m busy keeping up with our kids, working on our over 100-year-old house, and spending time with family and friends. In the future, we hope to get a cabin that will be a gathering place for family and friends to enjoy beautiful days and make memories. I also have an interest in collector cars and enjoy car shows and auctions.

Personally, I am most passionate about relationships with family and friends and have enjoyed, over the years, being actively involved in our parish and children’s schools. My family and I love contributing and being part of a supportive community.
